On August 20th and 21st, masterIT, as a charter member, hosted two Lipscomb & Pitts Breakfast Club events at The University of Memphis and Memphis Botanic Garden for over 400 participants. The featured guest and speaker was Merril Hoge, former NFL fullback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears, current ESPN analyst and most significantly, a cancer survivor.
During the evening event, the MILE (Memphis Institute for Leadership Education) Program was featured. The first of its kind in the nation, MILE pairs the best and brightest students from the Fogelman College of Business as protégés with business leaders from the community as mentors. The objective is to give these students the kind of head start to help them develop their careers and personal lives to the best of their potential, and to identify great future leaders for our city and plug them in with great companies to incent them to stay rather than leave.
The Breakfast, attended by the mayor and over 300 business leaders, included Merril’s fascinating mantra of, “Find A Way,” both for his professional career and battle with cancer.
The tag line of the Lipscomb & Pitts Breakfast Club is, “Powered By Teamwork,” and this event is an example of how the Memphis business community is intentional about just that. For more information, please see: www.lpbreakfastclub.com
